Top 8 Fantasy Basketball 9 CAT Waiver Wire Adds
All players are rostered in less than 35% of Yahoo leagues.
Kyshawn George -
Kyshawn continues to exceed all expectations and everything we thought we knew about him as a player as he runs away with the “steal of the draft” award. He’s improved every step of the way and provides categorical contributions across the board with his defense really shining as of late.
I have maintained that he should’ve been rostered since early February, but it still hasn’t caught on, as he remains below my 35% roster cutoff. With Bilal Coulibaly now out for the season, there’s plenty of runway for Kyshawn to do even more, and we’ve seen it in the last few games.
Justin Champagnie -
Champagnie recently elevated from his 2 way contract into a 4-year deal, eliminating all concerns about random rests to preserve games. Bilal Coulibaly is now out for the season, elevating Champagnie into a 30+ minute starting role. Champagnie has always been an exceptional per minute fantasy producer with great defensive contributions and outlier rebounding for his size.
It is by far my favorite add from the week, and a top 75 9cat projection feels on the conservative side. He should still be rostered in points leagues with slightly lower expectations. Washington will likely start to rest players and enter “silly season” mode, but this should only benefit Champagnie as it’s unlikely he will fall, victim.
Miles McBride -
McBride is the 1:1 injury replacement for Brunson, with virtually nobody to challenge him for his minutes in this thin Knicks rotation. Brunson will still be out for several games and McBride should continue to roll as a must roster player on big minutes. He offers a typical shoot-first point guard fantasy game with strong contributions in points & threes and secondary contributions in assists & steals. He thrives in punt FG% builds but should be rostered in all standard leagues.
Orlando Robinson -
The Raptors are arguably the hardest rotation to project going forward, but I feel good about saying Robinson has one of the most secure roles on the team. Jakob Poeltl will be in and out of the lineup for rest, as Toronto has no reason to play him big minutes through his hip injury. Even when he does play, he’s splitting minutes with Robinson, which still makes Robinson useful.
Robinson continues to trend up in minutes, playing a season high on Friday, and there’s no excuse to leave him on waivers.
Kyle Filipowski -
Filipowski’s game log is incredibly up and down, and his fantasy production is completely at the mercy of the tanking Jazz. Most of his value is correlated with Walker Kessle,r and whenever Kessler rests it’s an easy fantasy start for Filipowski. He also partially relies on the status of John Collins which is great news for Filipowski fantasy owners with Collins out for the season.
Filipowski has strictly played as Kessler’s backup for the majority of the season but has started to play next to Kessler the last few weeks which opens up a much higher ceiling for his fantasy production regardless of Kessler’s status.
On the surface, it remains challenging to hold someone in standard leagues with a minute floor of 15 but the Jazz will continue to rest players with increasing frequency while also limiting their starting core when they do play. Filipowski continues to play more and more and there isn’t any doubt he’s a great fantasy producer whenever he does play. I would continue to hold even through the bad games, knowing there’s likely another good one right around the corner.
Donovan Clingan -
The value of Clingan has been a bit controversial in fantasy circles and rightfully so. He has had many recent games with low minutes due to foul trouble or simply getting played off the floor. He is still very far away from being considered a good real life player but the fantasy contributions are hard to ignore in the traditional big man categories with a specialty in blocks.
The expectations that many had after the Ayton injury have largely diminished as he continues to fall in roster percentage. After back to back good games, the roster percentage swung drastically in the other direction. You never know what you’re going to get on a night to night basis, and it’s worth noting the trend of succeeding against bad teams or bad centers due to his deficiencies.
Adem Bona -
On a healthy team, Bona is the 4th center option, but the 76ers are far from healthy. It appears that they’ll be resting and limiting players the rest of the season, which includes Yabusele & Drummond who his value is directly tied to. It also seems to include Bona, who is surprisingly not safe himself as he is resting on Sunday.
I don’t think he is a guy you can roster and forget about due to these inconsistent rests and minute trends, but that day could come very soon. Continue to keep a close eye on Bona, and is a very easy fantasy start whenever Drummond or Yabusele are out.
Tre Jones -
Tre Jones moved into the starting lineup for the injured Lonzo Ball 6 games ago and has not had a bad game since the move, as he’s seen 30+ minutes in every game. Lonzo is now without a timetable to return from his injury and it’s entirely possible he’s just not coming back this season. This is huge news if you’re rostering Tre Jones and there isn’t a real excuse not to at this point. Jones main fantasy strength shines through with his consistent assists as your typical pass first point guard.
