Week 24 NBA Fantasy Basketball Waiver Wire Adds [March 31-April 6]
Heading towards the finish line!
Peyton Watson -
I have many restless nights wondering about Peyton Watson’s fantasy production with a consistent 30+ MPG role. He has gotten that in the last three games, and the results have been beautiful. There have been injuries that have enabled Watson to get this playing time, but he’s also played over Aaron Gordon in the last two games.
Averaging two blocks per 36 minutes this season and recording 4, 3, & 3 blocks in the last three games, that has always been his strongest category. The recent production across the board has also been a welcome surprise, and we’ve always known he just needs the minutes to be a fantasy superstar.
I’m not confident that the higher minutes will continue, but it’s worth taking a shot with the upside as high as it is. Even if they fall, the minutes' floor is high enough to not completely kill your fantasy team.
Tristan Vukcevic -
Vukcevic has recently entered the rotation and the results have been somewhat confusing. Since entering the rotation 8 games ago, he has also been out of the rotation for 2/8 of those games. The trend of these rotational absences aren’t 100% clear, but it’s down to one of two factors. Both games were against good teams, Indiana & New York, and both games were on the second leg of the back to back.
I believe it’s wise to avoid playing Vukcevic when the Wizards have a back to back which they do this week on Wednesday/Thursday. This could make it tough to hold in some formats, but I would consider him must roster in roto/games cap formats.
He has yet to clear 24 minutes in a game this season, but his fantasy game is good enough to be playable even with minutes in the low 20s.
Ryan Rollins -
With Damian Lillard out indefinitely, there is a lot of value that has opened up in Milwaukee. Rollins, Trent, and Porter can all be considered in standard leagues, and I think Rollins is my favorite of the group.
A master of thievery, Rollins has stolen the starting job in 4 of the last 5 games and only moved to the bench with Giannis out, likely for floor spacing reasons. The production has been mildly inconsistent, but the last 2 games have been the most impressive as he looks to continue the trend.
Adding Rollins is far from a must, but there might be enough there for him to help you steal a fantasy championship.
Adem Bona -
Bona was essentially a must add player in early March before missing two weeks. Since returning 3 games ago, the minutes have trended up every game and he has put together usable standard league lines in all 3 games. The minutes jumped up to 30 on Saturday as he moved into the starting lineup and did basically everything you could’ve asked from him.
I am nervous about trusting anything that’s been going on recently in Philadelphia, but I would consider Bona a must-add player. I fear that he might be too good to lead the tank, but as long as they keep losing and the minutes stay high enough, there’s no reason to leave him on waivers.
Jared Butler -
I believe Butler is the epitome of “bad real life player, good fantasy player” and he has shown that at multiple times this season. You may remember him for his short-lived run in Washington in early January before eventually being traded to Philadelphia. Butler has had a consistent role in Philadelphia for about a month now and the results have been mixed.
Butler is one of several “tank commanders” that Philadelphia has been deploying lately and they’ve gotten in the way of each other at times over this last month. I think there will still be some bad games mixed in, but he’s now had 3 great ones in a row and I would consider holding and looking past the bad games when they do happen.
AJ Johnson -
AJ Johnson was drafted in the late first round of the 2024 draft and was a sneaky addition to the Kuzma/Middleton swap at the deadline. At only 20 years old, Johnson was considered to be a raw prospect, but he’s really impressed me lately, looking a step ahead of where most people thought he was at in his development.
Like most waiver players at this time of year, he’s had some good games and some bad games, and his fantasy game is less than perfect. The good news about considering him for your fantasy team is that he’s bad enough in real life to not really have his minutes at risk for tanking purposes and the role should be consistent and continue to rise as the season progresses.
He’s been fun to watch, and I would look to add him on your squad, granted he fits your build. I think it’s entirely possible that it’s not long before we are rebranding the “Khris Middleton trade” to the “AJ Johnson trade.”
Anthony Black -
Jalen Suggs is out for the season. Cole Anthony has been in and out for weeks with no real timetable to return. Anthony Black is a worthy fantasy play as long as Cole Anthony remains out.
Black is still not starting, and he’s been so inconsistent throughout his 2 year career, but he’s strung together five good game now and is definitely a candidate to add to your team.
Orlando starts the week with a Monday/Tuesday back to back and 3 games in 4 nights Monday-Thursday, where you can look to add Black.
